Health Benefits of Eating Grass Fed Lamb

Why grass-fed lamb is better?

Grass finished lamb offers several advantages compared to grain-finished or partially grass-fed counterparts:

  1. It is nutritionally better for you. Grass finished lamb boasts a superior nutritional profile, with higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids, conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), and antioxidants such as vitamin E and selenium. These nutrients support heart health, immune function, and overall well-being. The simple answer is that lambs grazing in a grass pasture have 14% less fat and around 8% more protein when compared to grain-fed lamb. This decrease in fat content allows for more antioxidants, vitamins and an overall healthier, happier lamb.
  2. Lower Fat Content Grass finished lamb typically has lower fat content than grain-finished options. A leaner meat translates to fewer calories and saturated fats, making it a healthier choice for your diet.
  3. Improved Animal Welfare. Raising lambs on grass promotes better animal welfare, as it allows them to engage in natural grazing behaviours. An outdoor reared lamb lives a healthy life freely grazing on open pastures. What’s more, is that they were always designed to eat grass, it’s one of the largest parts of their natural diet.
  4. Grass finished lamb farming is more environmentally sustainable, as it promotes healthy soil, reduces erosion, and supports biodiversity. This method of farming also has a lower carbon footprint, as it eliminates the need for energy-intensive grain production.
